  8.                  To paradise, on earth, to end my days....
  9.                  Now, I don't know how I can go
  10.                  Back to Saint Lucia, for pot's pale lights burn
  11.                  My old savannas ... where hope now decays....

  13.                  I used to think, one day, things here that bind,
  14.                  Yet set such sorrows free, would send me back!
  15.                  Now, I don't know how I can go
  16.                  Back to these places lurking in my mind --
  17.                  They now set sorrows free, all bound in crack....
  18.  
  19.                  I used to think, for a less bitter life,
  20.                  The Caribbean's sun would lure me home.
  21.                  Now, I don't know how I can go;
  22.                  For one now finds, down there, the sorry strife --
  23.                  The very problems which engulf this Rome....
  24.  
  25.                  I used to think that constant needs for pity --
  26.                  For man's degraded souls -- would drive me there.
  27.                  Now, I don't know how I can go
  28.                  From this degrading place to my birth city.
  29.                  Now those degrading traits are everywhere....
  30.  
  31.                  I used to think, at last, bereft of mirth,
  32.                  I'd hunger for my home, where joys ran free!
  33.                  Now, I don't know how I can go
  34.                  Back to Saint Lucia -- paradise on earth! --
